Regional History Day

What is History Day?

History Day: Triumph & Tragedy

History Day is a nationally acclaimed history education program that encourages middle school and high school students to become writers, filmmakers, web designers, playwrights, and artists as they create unique interpretations of the past. History Day makes history come alive through active student learning and provides educators with professional development opportunities.

Students can enter one of five categories of competition (papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, and websites) in the junior division - grades 6th through 8th - and senior division - grades 9th through 12th. They can work as individuals or in groups in every category except the paper.

Students can participate at their local school or enter a regional contest. The 2019 Eastern Washington Regional History Day contest will be held on March 2nd, 2019, at Eastern Washington University (please see dates and links below). This regional competition is being sponsored by the College of Social Sciences and the Department of History at Eastern Washington University. Winners of each category may continue onto the Washington State History Day competition, which is now sponsored by the Washington State Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), Washington State Historical Society, and the Washington State Archives. Winners of the State competition can attend the National History Day contest June 9th-13th, 2019.
