    Katie Riley, Ph.D., CCLS, is an Assistant Professor in the Children's Studies Program at Eastern Washington University. She has her B.S. degree in Psychology from The University of Iowa, a M.A. in Family & Consumer Sciences- Child Life from The University of Akron, and a Ph.D. in Human Development and Family Studies with certificates in Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health and Developmental and Family Sciences Advanced Research Design and Methods from Iowa State University. Dr. Riley is also an Item-Writing Committee Member for the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP).  This will be her first year in the Children's Studies Program where she will be advising Option A: Child Life and Health Students, leading the Children's Studies Club, and teaching a variety of courses. Dr. Riley's primary area of research concerns the social, emotional, and behavioral impact of chronic illness and stress in childhood. She is also interested in childhood cancer survivorship, therapeutic camps, psychosocial interventions within and outside of the pediatric hospital setting, and research methods in child life, and evidence-based child life practices. For her dissertation research, she specifically focused the social and emotional wellbeing of adolescent cancer survivors and the social phenomena within the context of an oncology camp. Her research has been presented at the ACLP national conference, in addition to the Society for Research on Adolescence and The Society for Research in Child Development. Dr. Riley plans to continue pursuing research that will contribute to addressing the needs of children and families impacted by illness and hospitalization, and furthering the field of child life.
