Decolonizing Legacies and Praxis: Chicanx Studies from our Roots, Shaping our Future

This year marks two important watersheds: the historic Chicana and Chicano Studies Program at EWU was established 40 years ago and the PNW Foco was established almost 25 years ago. Both were founded by a group of scholar activists, including Carlos S. Maldonado. The EWU program is part of the larger Chicano Movement and the activist tradition and archive. The intent was to promote social change and engage in work that makes a difference in our communities and the larger world. Our work today is to refine and build upon these legacies.

In the context of this rich history, this year the PNW Foco will host the regional conference at EWU. We are pleased to announce the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Chicana and Chicano Studies Program at Eastern Washington University. The conference is a call for the restoration of critical history to help ground thought, culture, and envision the future.

In keeping with the conference theme, we encourage submission of papers, panels, roundtables, and workshops that address the legacy and praxis of Chicanx Studies for the present moment and near future. Faculty, staff, community, undergraduate and graduate students are invited to submit proposals. Submission deadline is September 06, 2017. Proposers will be notified of acceptance by September 13, 2017.
