Chinese Minor
Understanding the Chinese language is an extraordinary asset that opens a unique window into one of the world’s largest economies as well as most ancient civilizations that has roots extending more than 5,000 years. The Chinese language is shared by over 1.2 billion people and is the most common language spoken in the world. Students studying Chinese will be exposed to a culture that is rich in art, history, and philosophy, and an economy that is leading future research in technology, science, and business.

Confucius Institute at EWU
The Confucius Institute is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Their mission is to promote the Chinese language and cultures. Currently, there are over 480 Confucius institutes collaborating with universities and public k-12 schools worldwide. In 2016, Eastern Washington University established a formal partnership with the Confucius Institute of the State of Washington (CIWA), located at the University of Washington. CIWA has sponsored and continues to support cultural events, provide educational materials and study abroad scholarship opportunities for EWU students.
