    Technical communicators develop, edit and manage software and equipment manuals, maintenance procedures, assembly instructions, catalogs, sales promotion materials, organizational policies and procedures, websites, online tutorials and proposals.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Education with English/Secondary Major

    Students will reflectively assess their own ongoing development as teachers of English/Language Arts, as well as demonstrate their competence in established national standards (such as the guidelines of the National Council of Teachers of English) in content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, and professional disposition.

  • Minor in English with Linguistics Emphasis

    Linguistics is a broad-based discipline concerned with the study of language.

  • Minor in English

    Minor programs are available for students interested in combining a general interest in English language and literature with a liberal arts major, for those wishing to study technical writing in preparation for a technical, scientific, professional, or communications career, and for those planning to teach at the elementary or secondary level.

    EWU Masters of Arts in English - Literature and Writing - This program can prepare students for a range of professional career opportunities that require high-level reasoning for complex projects. The study of literature, theory, and writing explores patterns of human thought and culture, thus freshly illuminating and challenging how we live, work, think, and engage in the contemporary world. Through methodical academic research, students can • Strengthen a sense of personal initiative • Cultivate advanced problem-solving abilities • Discover ways the structure of literature logically extends to issues in the professional world and global community.A Cohort ModelThis two-year program is founded on a cohort model: students are not isolated but mutually supportive, practicing a kind of intellectual teamwork in the midst of shared academic challenges. In class and through the final thesis project, students have close and persistent access to faculty guidance at each stage of their work.Course work and Teaching OpportunitiesBesides traditional courses in British and American literature and literary theory, we offer studies in pedagogy and rhetoric, as well as innovative cross-disciplinary courses in digital humanities and archival research. All students will have the opportunity to teach, whether through a graduate service appointment (GSA) or a teaching internship either within the English department or at a nearby community college.

  • Master of Arts in English with Teaching English as a Second Language Emphasis

    This program prepares pre-service and in-service teachers of speakers of English as a second language (ESL) or a foreign language (EFL) to teach second language literacy, culture and communication skills.

  • Certificate in the Teaching of Writing

    This certificate is for students who are in good academic standing and intend to pursue college teaching careers.
