Principal Certification Program

The Principal Certification Program at Eastern Washington University prepares educators for positions of leadership in public, private, and charter prekindergarten through grade 12 schools of all sizes. Upon completion of the program, students will have satisfied the requirements of the Washington State Department of Public Instruction for a school principal's certificate. The Program is based on state and national standards and grounded in the principles of best practices in educational leadership, management, and administration. The Program endeavors to prepare educators to be effective school leaders whether as principals, assistant principals, program administrators, or as teachers still in the classroom.

What will I study?

The Program requires the completion of five (5) specialized courses, a graduate level course in school curriculum, and a year-long internship consisting of a minimum of 540 hours. A prior, or in-progress, master's degree in education or a related field; a teacher certificate or Educational Staff Associate certificate; three-years of teaching experience; and a job in a school or school district are required for admission to the principal internship course that serves as the culminating experience of the Program.
